Redlands was a private house up to the late forties, early fifties. Around this time
the building was purchased by Mrs Mary Elizabeth Mee who was responsible for its
change of use to Redlands Hotel. Redlands Hotel was, from the information
received via Marys son James Mee, very prestigious for its day with lots of home
comforts, including a telephone room and a dance hall. James remembered
the gardens at the rear being damaged by a bomb during the Blitz which fell on Oak Park, he can also remember bailing the water out of the cellar after flooding.
The building itself has not altered much at all apart from the various extensions,
which were built by British Steel when they took over the building in the early sixties
as their Head Office. It was then purchased by Boulding Estates in 1982 and then
by Addison Estates in 1985. It then changed owners again briefly when SC
Corporate Investments took over the ownership in 2004 until the present owners,
B-TAK Enterprise Ltd bought out the centre in 2006, who now successfully run the
centre and have a gradual internal modernisation program underway whilst keeping many of the original external features.
Today the building is known as a premier location for business with clean, modern offices, excellent facilities, flexible terms and a friendly atmosphere. Redlands Business Centre is an ideal starting point for small and growing businesses.
